The Institute has been functioning at the national level
with headquarters in New Delhi from 1967 onwards. Its
objectives are:

To promote teaching and learning
of values in schools, colleges and universities

To prepare curricula, teaching-learning
materials and methodologies for effective value education

To prepare text books, resource
books, monographs and other educational resources for
value education

To orient and train teacher at the
school, college and university level in imparting value
education

To conduct research studies, organize
conferences/seminars
-
To engage in advocacy for incorporating
value education as an integral part of educational process
at all levels
-
In general, to encourage value-based
individual behaviour, public policies and socio-political
interactions in national life
The Institute is engaged in the following tasks:

Preparation of resource books

Organising training programmes and
refresher courses for teachers

Helping schools and colleges to
introduce innovative experiments in imparting values
through appropriate campus exercises, celebration of
festivals etc.

Facilitating the study of world
religions and promoting peace studies, conflict resolution
and interfaith dialogue
